Her face is almost always dominated by her bright smile. She has a strange grey colored eyes, that sometime attract comments from other people. She sports medium blonde hair that sits just past her shoulders. Usually she wears it pulled back. As for clothing she can usually be found in dresses or a wet suite. P E R S O N A L I T Y Atticus (AKA 'Attie') is the tomboy who never got the memo that tomboys aren't supposed to wear dresses. She has absolutley no quarrel with dirt and bugs and all things otherwise designated as 'boy' concepts. Attie keeps a cool demeanor, usually suppressing any feelings of disappointment or anger. She keeps a level head in panic situations, although she prefers to not take a leadership position. She's the kind of person that other people just feel comfortable around. She keeps things light hearted and warm. Attie clings to a strong spiritual background when it comes to dealing with internal issues, but tries really hard not to push her faith onto other people. She struggles a little bit with self-esteem and tends to stick around people who build her up. She is really great at helping other people pick up the brokenness in their lives... just not the best at doing it herself. H I S T O R Y Attie was born to a rather well off family in Chicago, Illinois. Her father worked for a rather large business firm and her mother was a lawyer. She was the last born after a line of four boys. While her parents babied her, the same couldn't be said for her older siblings. She played tough and held her own when faced with one of the 'goons' Attie did well in school and excelled in volleyball. By her senior year she has a full ride offer to a university in Nebraska, but Attie simply couldn't stand the thought of being so far from her family. She decided instead to go to school at the art institute in Chicago where she thrived and was able to live at home. Upon graduation Attie got an apartment in the city, but after her parents were killed in a car accident she simply couldn't stand to be there anymore. Attie packed up what she could in a checked suitcase and a carry on and wandered to the farthest place she could think of. She has called this bizarre little island home for just over a year now. Humans
If you are unaware of what a human is then you need to get off of this site and go get serious help. But, for our purposes… A human is a creature bound to land. They can occasionally explore the oceans but require equipment and transportation. They’ve been living on the island for hundreds of years, causing a muck. You know the usual.
Smudge-bloods
A smudge blood can be born to either a human family or a Merfamily. They have the ability to walk on dry land, but when they touch water they become Mer. They’re considered a dirty breed, nobody really understands them. Usually they spend their lives trying to avoid their powers while picking one lifestyle to stick to.
Merfolk
There are Mermaids and Mermen. They live within the ocean and are unable to come onto land, although they can beach, running only a slight chance of getting stuck. From the torso up they are human like. From the waist down they have, well… tails. Their scales can be of any color. Each member of the Merfolk live inside of the castle.
Sirens
Sirens are a unique species of Merladies…. If you’ve heard any old fishing lore you know about them. Sirens use their beautiful singing voices to lure fishermen to the edge of their boats where they are then seduced and sucked into the water. Sirens then eat the fishermen and go along like nothing is wrong. Sirens CAN and DO blend in with the general Merfolk population. They try to hide their identity as the peaceful nature of the Merfolk doesn't exactly condone their behavior.

These are pretty standard...

Humans first settled the Island of Laylu over 200 years ago, the first inhabitants those of a shipwreck, the survivors never rescued. They did well enough, building structures making it through one tropical storm after another. These original humans learned of the Merfolk and the two species lived peacefully, helping each other and navigating a relationship unlike another anywhere else in the world. The human offspring would be discovered some 75 years later, by an American Coast Guard vessel. It didn't take long for there to be development on the Island and it quickly became a tourist spot. The Merfolk became more elusive as the onland population continued to grow. Fishing became a huge export of the island, ships coming from all over to catch the rare fish that could be found here. That was before fishermen started disappearing. Rumors that it was the Merfolk who were responsible began to catch and quickly spread like wild fire. A war has been raging on ever since - it's been bloody and it's been hard on both sides. There are the few who are searching for peace. What side will you be on? |
